This section tells you about why and how we set up this website and who helped
us.
We have also added information about how to make sure that we make meetings
easy for everyone to take part
|
ARC (The Association for Real Change), built this website to help
those who support self-advocates who have a learning disability. |
This website gives supporters a chance to get in touch with each other
via their own E- forum. |
| |
It also gives supporters a chance to share ideas and information about
training. |
|
Who Are ARC?
ARC is a membership organisation. Our members are those who
give a service to people with a learning disability. |
ARC helps and supports it’s members through training, branch
network meetings, E forums, information, workshops, conferences, etc. |

Equipping My Supporter Project |
|
Alison Wright co-ordinated an ARC project called Equipping
My Supporter (EmS) between 2006 & 2007. |
|
This project was funded by the Department
of Health. |
|
The EmS project followed on from work carried out by VIA (Values
into Action). |
VIA put together a training pack, called ‘Good Support’,
which helps learning disability self-advocates to train their own new
support staff. |
|
During 2006, we talked and listened to people from learning disability
self-advocacy groups, and learning disability organisations.
We found that many groups have training to offer, but they do not have
a website to tell other self-advocates and their supporters about it. |
|
We decided to set up the Castanet website to help people to do so. |
